The Mayoral Candidate Forum and The Laverne Cox VIP Meet and Greet!

What is your favorite app and why?
“Heads Up!” Its super fun! It’s the game from Ellen DeGeneres that she plays on her show. You can play with one friend or play with 30! There’s a category for everyone to enjoy!

What was your favorite college memory? Aggieville…

What is the best event/show you’ve seen in Wichita? Lil Wayne!!!!!!

What is your number one restaurant recommendation in Wichita? Sabor

Thomas Dalton - YPW Community Service Award 2015
Thomas Dalton, Engineer at Textron Aviation

What was your first job as a kid?
My first real job as a kid was working as a gas station attendant and cashier. Other than manning the register, I was also responsible for handling the cleaning, stocking, and other tasks as such.

What was your favorite college memory?
I went to an engineering college, which basically meant everybody was a huge, video-gaming nerd; and every so often they would do Halo tournaments. Three friends and I would enter and play, and one time we got into a stalemated capture the flag game with another team. We went back and forth for about three hours in heavy digital combat… we ended up losing, but the whole experience was incredibly fun.

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
Taking six months to just hop around the world would be amazing; but, the dream vacation that I’ll actually do is to spend a week backpacking in Iceland.

What is your number one restaurant recommendation in Wichita?
Undoubtedly one of my favorites is Manna Wok. It’s a tiny, hole-in-the-wall Korean place, but the food is amazing and every space on the walls has been filled with pictures of customers that have been coming to eat there.

If someone were to ride in your car, what would they hear?
Some of my go-to music includes The Joy Formidable, Muse, and the Bad Plus.

Tara Patterson - YPW Community Service Award 2015
Tara K. Patterson, Compliance Specialist at Emprise Bank

What has been your favorite YPW experience?
My favorite experience by far is being a member of the Pulse Action Team. We all are very different which helps us brainstorm ideas to keep our events new and interesting. We work well together planning and organizing approximately 15 events a year, including Founders’ Day.

What was your first job as a kid?
My first job was a nanny. We had family friends that worked for Chevron and lived in Lagos, Nigeria. They would come home every summer to buy a year worth of supplies. I cared for the kids, drove them to activities, and helped with the shopping for a family of five that would last them an entire year.

If you had to choose an Olympic sport to compete in what would it be?
It would definitely have to be rowing. There is nothing better than getting out on the water and the feeling you get while working as a team in perfect synchrony.

Who is the person you would most like to go to lunch with and why?
I would like to have lunch with Warren Buffett. He is the Chuck Norris of investing. He is untouchable, crushes all the competitions, and has outclassed everyone for more than half a century while still being loyal to his principles and a down to earth guy.

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
I would love to visit the Turk and Caicos Islands. It is definitely on my scuba diving bucket list.

If someone were to ride in your car, what would they hear?
If someone were to ride in my car they would always be up for a surprise. I have a very eclectic taste in music and I listen to Blues, Classical, Christian, Country, Folk, Jazz, Rock, etc. It really depends on my mood and what I feel like listening to that day.
