City Advisory Board 101

A Primer on Civic Engagement

When individual Young Professionals involve themselves in the processes of local government, the collective impact on the future and direction of the city can be huge. The City Advisory Board 101 program is designed to introduce YPW members to opportunities to serve on the District Advisory Boards and/or other advisory boards open to general citizen participation in Wichita and surrounding communities.

We’ve created a short process to help you start effecting change:

Step 1: Attend an City Advisory Board 101 session to learn more about what is involved from City Council members and/or City staff in Wichita and surrounding cities.

Step 2: Fill out an application to serve as an advisory board member in Wichita or your city of residence.

Step 3: Represent your perspective, as a young professional in Wichita, on the advisory board. Remember, you are also representing young professionals as a class of people, so be sure to fulfill your commitments and always act with respect toward fellow board members.

Note: Like our Nonprofit Board Placement Program, this program is offered to YPW members only. With few exceptions, Board positions are open only to residents of the City they serve. District Advisory Boards are more specifically open only to residents of that District.
