Add some art and some humor to your lunch break. CityArts and theYoung Professionals of Wichita welcome the Ulrich to the heart of downtown for a noontime screening of Tell It Like It Is: Candor in Contemporary Video Art, presented by Ulrich Curator Emily Stamey. While you watch and listen, enjoy lunch, compliments of the Ulrich Museum. Lunch is limited to the first 50 participants; pre-registration is required. This event is open to members and non-members.

About the Program:
Constantly, it seems, news reporters parse our leaders’ statements to tell us what their speeches really meant, to cut through the political rhetoric and reveal the message underneath. Television comedians, The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart leading the pack, then lodge barbs and jabs at these media personalities for muddying the conversation with their own agendas and rhetoric. Assuming the role of comedic straight men, these comedians cast the politicians and the news media in jokester roles, using humor to cut to the quick of serious topics.

Many contemporary artists have similarly used wit and jest to speak plainly about difficult subjects. Tell It Like It Is: Candor in Contemporary Video Art features examples of these strategies in action. Comprising a selection of short, funny videos, this program will be offered in different Wichita venues throughout the late winter and early spring of 2012.

Pulse is hosting a “Red Light, Green Light” party encouraging you to wear red if you’re in a relationship, green if you’re single and yellow if your status says “it’s complicated”.
