Volunteer Mingle Recap

By Emily Reisig, Community Relations Action Team Member

Meg Foreman - YPW Program & Marketing Manager

On September 18, YPW members mingled with their peers and 22 nonprofit organization representatives at The Pumphouse Bar in Old Town. We had a nonprofit representative for every passion—from horticulture to financial literacy. Volunteering in our community is not only a way to make an impact on the issues that mean the most to you, but also a way to get involved and meet new people. You can acquire new skills or investigate other interests that you haven’t explored.

Some examples of local organizations in attendance were:

The Kansas Humane Society which can teach you tips on how to become a dog trainer or give you valuable experience caring for post operation animals in their spay/neuter clinic.

Junior Achievement, which is the world’s largest organization working to prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. A volunteer with JA would make a difference by educating youth about personal finance and workplace/business skills.

There is an array of volunteer options with Episcopal Social Services. One that stood out to me was volunteering as a representative payee. A representative payee helps those who receive disability income budget and manage their funds.

Would you like to work on your green thumb? Botanica is a great place to volunteer your time and learn a new hobby, while taking in the beautiful scenery.

Other organizations in attendance were:

American Red Cross
Arthritis Foundation
Arts Partners
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Boys & Girls Club of South Central Kansas
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Heart of America Chapter
Dress for Success Wichita
EWARM (Episcopal Wichita Area Refugee Ministry)
Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland
Kansas DUI Impact Center
Lifeline Animal Placement & Protection, Inc. (LAPP) (a no kill animal shelter)
Museum of World Treasures
RESULTS Educational Fund
Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita
The Lord’s Diner
Tallgrass Film Festival

Get involved, find your passion, and help our community thrive at the same time. If you know of a volunteer event in the area you can add it to the volunteer opportunities on our website at

Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer.
