YPW Welcomes Summer Interns

Program kicks off with Wingnuts Tailgate

Heather Bohrer

Intern Return kicked off with a Wingnuts game on June 6, when nearly 70 summer interns played yard games before enjoying the 1-0 Wingnuts win.

YPW members welcomed the interns to Wichita, many of whom are from out of state. Interim Nexus Chair Chad Glenn commented “I got the chance to talk to maybe a dozen interns – a group from Purdue, a young lady from San Antonio, a couple of guys from St. Louis, a landscape architect from Topeka and a few other interns from smaller towns around the area. Many of these people are experiencing Wichita for the first time. That makes 70 potential new hires upon graduation that could call Wichita home. In a way, part of that decision will come down to us. How can we show them that Wichita is a great place to call home?”

It is our hope that many of these interns will do exactly that – decide to accept permanent jobs in Wichita and join our YP community. In order to assist with this transition, YPW is hosting a Residential Housing Tour next week . Interns will tour two East side apartments and three downtown apartments to get a taste of what it will be like to work, live and play in Wichita. We can’t wait to show off more of our amazing city!
